The Call Box:

Courage to Serve, Strength to Heal

"Breaking the Silence, Building the Solution"

Welcome to The Call Box

Where History Meets Hope, Where Connection Leads to Healing

In 1885, Baltimore made history when Deputy Marshal Jacob Frey introduced the first police call box system to our city. Standing on street corners throughout Baltimore, these revolutionary communication devices connected officers to their stations, providing a lifeline when help was needed most. For over a century—from 1885 to 1986—Baltimore's call boxes served as beacons of connection, allowing law enforcement to reach out, report in, and request assistance when facing challenges in the field.

Today, The Call Box honors this legacy of communication and connection while addressing the modern challenges facing our first responder community. In partnership with The National Law Enforcement and First Responders Wellness Center at Harbor of Grace, we're reviving the call box concept for a new era—one where the urgent call isn't just for backup on the streets, but for healing, support, and recovery from the invisible wounds of service.
