The Reconstruction Workbooks
Eight printable workbooks for understanding a relapse and rebuilding after it
A relapse doesn't erase what you built, but it does ask you to look honestly at what happened. These eight workbooks take you through that work in order: what relapse is (and isn't), the patterns that led there, the moment-by-moment sequence, and the repair that comes after. Work through them alone, with a sponsor, or with your counselor.
This is the printable set of the material on the Reconstructing Recovery page. Go there for the full guide, the videos and the five stages.
These workbooks support professional treatment and are not a substitute for it. In a crisis, call or text 988, or call SAMHSA at 1-800-662-4357.
The eight parts
Meant to be worked in order, Part 1 to Part 8.
Relapse vs Return to Use
Part 1 of 8
The distinction the rest of the series rests on. A relapse comes after real engagement with recovery: treatment, meetings, lifestyle change, a stretch of growth. A return to use comes after abstinence without that engagement. Knowing which one happened shapes what needs to change next.
Inside: learning slides on traditional relapse, return to use, and why telling them apart matters for treatment

In the Rooms vs Around the Rooms
Part 2 of 8
Attending isn't the same as participating. This part looks at the difference between hovering at the edge of the recovery community and actually being part of it, and why that difference decides what kind of recovery you get.
Inside: core reading · learning slides · a 33-question worksheet

Trudging the Road to Happy Destiny
Part 3 of 8
The long middle of recovery, when the crisis has passed and the work is still daily. Built on the Big Book's word "trudging," it treats steady, unglamorous effort as the road to real joy, and helps you find the moments of happiness that effort has already produced.
Inside: core reading · learning slides · a full worksheet

Guilt and Shame
Part 4 of 8
After a relapse, guilt says "I did something wrong" and shame says "I am something wrong." This part separates the two, and works on taking apart the second one so it stops blocking the way back.
